Parenting how to: Home Made Paint

Who needs paint when you have corn flour, yoghurt and shaving cream?

If you’re a parent, one of the things you are definitely going to want to be able to know how to do is to make home made paint.  It’s exactly the kind of magic trick you are going to need up your sleeve for those unexpected situations.  Like when it rains unexpectedly on your family holiday.  Or when your child remembers late at night that they have a project due for the next day.

The recipes below are all super easy and use ingredients that most of us have at home.

Yoghurt Paint

Perfect for little ones who want to put everything in their mouths.  Simply add a few drops of food colouring to yoghurt and you have a safe, edible, washable paint for hours of finger painting fun.  Do just keep in mind that the dairy in the yoghurt will make it smelly after a while – so use this for art works that you don’t intend to keep!

Yoghurt makes a great home made paint

Corn Flour Paint

This paint will keep better and is possibly better suited to slightly older children.  Mix 1tbs of Corn Flour with 1 Tbs of cold water to dissolve.  Then add a cup of boiling water to thicken.  Lastly add your choice of food colouring and leave to cool down before handing to your budding little artists.

Use Corn flour to make paint for more long term projects

Shaving Foam Paint

Possibly the most popular of all three kinds of home made paint.  It’s textured, smells great and is really fun to use in the bath or pool.  Simply spray some shaving cream into a bowl, add a few drops of food colouring and mix it gently with your paint brush.  Taa-daa!  Now you have shaving foam paint.

I hope these easy recipes bring you and your family tons of fun together.
