As children function within a family setting any difficulties experienced by the child be they emotional difficulties, behavioural difficulties or learning difficulties will also have an impact within the family system.  In the same way, interactions within the family will impact on the child.  The goal of family therapy is to provide a safe space where all family members can come together and talk through the difficulties they have been experiencing while being guided by the psychologist. Families are ever evolving systems and constantly need to adapt to changes such as the birth of a child, diagnosis of a learning difficulty, divorce, separation, remarriage etc. and family therapy helps family members communicate these difficulties effectively and so resolve conflicts.
